This gifts project require cooking skills, basic chemistry, hot vs cold, and artistic talent. This ideas is a great tie in with the Little House on the Prairie books, as Laura & Mary mention doing this. Young children should be helped with this project as it involves the stove.
Boil a couple of cups genuine maple syrup on the stove in about 5 minutes. It is imperative mood that the maple syrup be genuine, pure maple syrup, Mrs. Butterworth won’t cut it! Take the pot of syrup directly outside and use spoons, measuring cups, or eyedroppers to make patterns and shapes on fresh, clean snow. The candy will harden in about a minute, and then can be eaten or saved in a tin for sharing with friends.
