ABC Tea Bag Folding

Posted by craft on

January 10, 2009

craft tea bag foldingPaper folding is a kind of popular craft project general people like. And the new type of paper folding is the Tea Bag Folding. This craft mode known start in the Netherlands. Crafters started to recycle their patterned tea bags and fold the paper to make tiles. It seems like in Origami. The tiles, in turn, were used to make greeting cards and other beautiful crafts.

What began as paper art by folding recycled tea bags has become a popular craft much like Origami. Here are some basic designs, step by step instructions and list of materials you will need to create greeting cards and other beautiful crafts.

You don’t have to use tea bags, however, as you can now purchase printed paper for this craft. Or, you can print your own paper by using your computer and your printer. You can also stamp designs on paper manually using stamps and permanent colored inks.

The ultimate designs that you can make in Tea Bag Folding are endless, but, if you are a beginner to the craft, it’s best that you stick with simpler formats. You can check your local area to see if there are any classes offered that you can attend. You can also search the Internet to find books, videos, and other instructional materials.

Materials you need to get started in this beautiful craft:

A pair of sharp scissors
White glue
[ad#ad-1]
Four easy steps, some paper, and a clean flat work surface.
Again, you may choose to use a patterned wrapping paper or you may want to use white paper and stamp it or otherwise design it yourself. The choice is entirely up to you!

You’ll need eight square tiles to make the basic Tea Bag Fold. A tile is a square of paper that has a stamp or design on it. Take each tile, one by one, and fold it in half. Crease it carefully. Then, unfold each tile and fold it in the opposite direction. Crease it carefully again. Open the eight tiles up so they are relatively flat again.

The next step is to flip each tile over on the work surface. Fold each tile in half along their one diagonal side, then, carefully crease each fold. Now, open each tile up and fold and crease again along the other diagonal side. If it sounds a little confusing, you should end up with four creased lines on all eight of your paper tiles.

The third step is to hold each tile, one at a time, so that the pattern is facing you. Grab two diagonal corners on the opposite sides and place these together. Then, smooth out the front of the paper tile, and then the back, so that it now resembles a diamond. After you finish this step, you will have eight diamond – shaped paper tiles.

The fourth step is to lay the tiles out again on the flat work surface. In the middle of each of the tiles, there should be a creased line. Position a tile on top of another tile so that the edge is aligned with that middle line. Then, apply a dab of white glue to secure them together. Repeat this step until you have seven of the paper tiles in place. Then, with the eighth tile, you will need to place it under the first fold; glue it securely too. Allow the white glue on the paper tiles to dry thoroughly.

Finally, you can add your pattern to a card and finish it out by trimming it with glitter, beads, or anything you like.
